Today we are witnessing an assault on America, an assault on democracy. We are witnessing America take several steps back as a leader of the “free world”.

I’ve seen a lot in my well over six decades of life. I’ve seen a lot of things change since my birth in 1952, my awareness about life that occurred a decade later, my becoming an adult and maturing to where I am now, an elder. Having said that, let me remind my younger associates that time flies whether you’re having fun or not, but I digress.

I’ve seen white and colored signs removed, witnessed bombings in my hometown, an infamous one at a church, seen a man walk on the moon. I’ve seen a president assassinated and seen a black man take the oath of office. I’ve seen many changes in fashion and style, while even witnessing the introduction of new music genres. Computer technology is hand-held, information is readily available, and, at our fingertips. Everything is smart from our watches, our televisions, and our phones, everything except our system, our congress, our leaders, our government.

It’s Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Our country is in a chaotic mess. Elected officials are participating in, now leading, an anarchist movement. Unfortunately, an entire political party is complicit with an effort to overturn an election and usurp democracy. Surely many of the members of the Republican party disagree with the actions of these traitors, but they are silent and obviously, frightened. I guess today is a day that they don’t have the courage to speak the truth.

I have never witnessed anything like this. Unless you’ve lived in a third world or an autocratic nation, neither have you. Now I’m quite sure that many republican elected officials just hope to get through the day and hope normalcy will eventually come back. But, given the fact that their action, or in some cases their inaction, has encouraged the chaos, that hope may really, just be folly.
